Giving Thanks

They joined hands in a circle to sing a song of thanks before sitting down to eat. The table was new, the chairs were new, even the smooth, steaming turkey was new. When several slices of it were on her plate, the littlest girl poked at it uncertainly with her spoon. The others were too busy shoveling heaps of food into their mouths to notice as she finally gave up, content to suck little bits of milk from her glass. When they all got up, laughing and joking, she slid to the floor, a wide open grin on her face.
