Three Poems For The Night

1.
Streetlights show the forms of leaves
When tired nights
Moan like lost mountain caves

2.
Somewhere
Here
The apartments are stacked
Lacking the energy to break out
To spring and unfurl
To scatter in sensuous debris
The leaves, the yellow-lit leaves
The people
Who plant the trees and pave the streets
Are safe away
On tile floors
And TV screens

3.
Even if
Insurmountable clouds
Were visible like rigid concrete
Shooting stars would fall
Laughing
Baffling
Crashing through the sleepy air
For above the yellow light
The night sings lullabies
To the leaves
Lulling them back to sleep
