Mermaid Story

She knew herself from the scrap of story she found in the tiny bottle. It read:

The mermaid was lithe and firm where her torso transformed into her scaled, nearly transparent tail. She had tangled hair full of wise old hermit crabs. Her fingers were thin and sure of themselves. In the night-blue sea where she lived, she was known from the faroff kelp forests to the mer-person city of castles as a simple, strong, curious girl. Her suitors were many, but she kept her curiosity focused on the worlds sloshing around her, especially when they brought her this story.
